ČERNOBÍLÁ CESTA (BLACK AND WHITE ROUTE)

The most beautiful studies and problems of Mario Matouš, the best Czech chess composer of the 20th century, and bizarre chess stories of Pavel Houser connected by illustrations of Kristina Peřichová into one splendid book. The book was published also in limited numbered edition (100 copies), bound in imitation leather with an embossed diagram, paper cover and sewn ribbon bookmark. On 240 pages you will found 45 studies and problems, 22 stories and 36 illustrations. The book is supplemented by biographies of both of the authors and several yet non-published photos. The book was published by Prague chess society in 2014.

Snowdrops and Oldhands – Czech Coal Chess Match 2012

Averbakh: “Chess is mainly the Art“

[13.12.2012 00:00:00] - Ninety years old Yuri Averbakh, the oldest living grandmaster of the world, still in a great condition, is a guest of the match Snowdrops and Oldhands. In the free day of Wednesday, he hold the lecture where he demostrated the chess Art. Vlastimil Hort and Fridrik Olafsson didn´t miss among the audiance.

After short chess history review, he presented some of his wonderful endgame studies, which he placed by memory, without paper support, and he was often rewarded by a big spontaneous applaus after finishing the endgame study.

This study serves as one of his demosntrations of chess resembling the Dance art. 1.Vg2+ black king can´t go on the H-column for stalemat and over time he can´t go even to E-column to threat the Queen. But how to profite of it? 1…Kf8 2.Kg5+! The King „dance“ till the square g1! 2…Kg7 3.Kf4+! Kf6 4.Kg3+! Kg5 5.Kf2+! Kf4 on 5…Kh4 comes 6.Vh1# 6.Kg1+ and the King has to go to E-column 6…Ke3 and after 7.Ve1+ he lose the Queen! Simple and beautiful!
