[22.08.2016 00:00:00] - An attempt to break the world record in a blindfold simul will not be taking place in Prague this December as previously planned. After considering all pros and cons, the Prague Chess Society decided not to go ahead to hold this big event with the Uzbek-American grandmaster, Timur Gareyev.
"We were pleased that we had a chance - during ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2016 festival - to introduce Gareyev to the Czech fans, while he was playing a blindfold simul against twelve opponents. At the same time, however, we realized that our and his ideas about major chess event are significantly different. Hence we decided not to hold the attempt to break the world record with Gareyev,“ the chairman of Prague Chess Society, Pavel Matocha noted.
The Prague Chess Society wishes best of luck and success to grandmaster Timur Gareyev. We believe that due to his extraordinary abilities to play blindfolded game, he will find another producer interested to hold the attempt to break blindfold simul record, which will need to be played on minimum of 47 chess boards.
GM Timur Gareyev together with the chairman of Prague Chess Society, Pavel Matocha and referee Pavel Votruba, prior the start of the blindofold simul in June 2016.
Among the twelve opponents of GM Timur Gareyev in his blindfold simul played within ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2016 festival, had also been a manager of ČEZ, Jan Klaus.
