CUBIST EXHIBITION IN GRAND CAFÉ ORIENT

GRAND CAFÉ ORIENT IN THE HOUSE U ČERNÉ MATKY BOŽÍ

Grand Café Orient (www.grandcafeorient.cz) is the only cubist cafe on the world. You can find it in the first floor of the house called U Černé Matky Boží (corner of Celetná ulice and Ovocný trh in the centre of Prague), a jewel of cubist architecture designed by architect Josef Gočár.

The exclusivity of this house, that celebrate 100 years, doesn´t consist only in its cubistic exterior, but also in his groundplan and interior spaces. The handwriting of architect Gočár is evident also when seeing the interior of the coffee (bufet bar, lustres, lamps etc.).

Grand Café Orient used to run on in the house U Černé Matky Boží during ten years, but in the twenties it had been closed and a bank was settled in this house. After 80 years again, the cubistic coffee was reopened here.
