CZECH COAL CHESS MATCH - Snowdrops and Old-hands
(December 2009, hotel Cristal Palace, Mariensbad)
Young women grandmsters (Humpy Koneru, Anna Muzychuk, Katerina Lahno and Jana Jackova) defeated in the two-round schveningen match the Snowdrops versus Old-hands - Czech Coal Chess Match 2009 the team of chess legends (Viktor Kortchnoi, Jan Timman, Robert Hübner and Vlastimil Hort) by the closest possible difference 16,5 – 15,5.
The match was taking place from 28 November till 5 December 2009 in Cristal Palace hotel in Mariensbad . The speed of a game was 90 minutes for 40 moves with additional 30 minutes till the end of the game and 30 seconds was added for each completed move. The tournament was held by a civic association Prague Chess Society.
ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2009
(May 2009, BW Kampa hotel, Prague)
The eight-game match in rapid chess, where the best Czech chess player David Navara will play against grandmaster Vassily Ivanchuk, who belongs to the absolute world chess top, is to take place between 27th to 31st May 2009 at Best Western Kampa hotel in Prague. Forty years old Vassily Ivanchuk has been among the world top players for the last twenty years. As per 1st January 2009 rated this most successful Ukrainian grandmaster third in the world chart. The match of grandmasters Navara and Ivanchuk is the main attraction of the chess festival ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2009, which is held by a civic association Prague Chess Society. All games will be commented on for the audience by the Czech-American grandmaster, Lubomír Kaválek. All games will be shown on-line. The match will be complemented by a chess simul and by lectures by grandmasters Lubomír Kaválek, Vlastimil Hort and Ján Plachetka. The chess festival ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2009 is held in a partnership with the capital city Prague.
