[09.12.2013] - With not a single stumble, the Snowdrops went from star to the end of the tournament. The final score of the 6th year of Snowdrops and Oldhands is 17,5 : 14,5 for ladies. Among the four Snowdrops, Viktorija Cmilyte, Mariya Muzychuk, Alina Kashlinskaya and Anastasiya Ziaziulkina was not a single weak link. After a half-time even the Snowdrop with the least amount of points was better than the most productive of the Oldhands.
This year was not really good one for GM Wolfgang Uhlmann, who had a few of really good positions, some of them were even a simple move from winning, but that one... [all]
[08.12.2013] - It was an incredible experience for all of the spectators how charmingly and in what tempo seventy-years-old GM Genna Sosonko moved from one chessboard to another. When all of the games ended he was signing score sheets and books and even was able to explain all of the mistakes to his adversaries.
The simultaneous game of Dutch GM of Russian origin Genna Sosonko against eleven adversaries took place on Saturday 7th November 2013 in Poděbrady within the match Snowdrops and Oldhands – Vršanská uhelná chess match 2013.
And the final score? Four draws of Peter Budinský, Pavel Englický,... [all]
[08.12.2013] - It took six rounds, but the Oldhands have finally got it. On Friday Jossif Dorfman won against Marija Muzychuk and noted the first victory of veterans. Muzychuk made mistake in the middle game and for the experienced player Dorfman, it was not hard to win the game. Unfortunately, this victory did not mean any change in the actual state of Oldhands. Because Alina Kashlinskaya won against Borislav Ivkov. But it was not easy for her. Although the material advantage of the Russian beauty, Serbian legend Ivkov resisted and created new interesting counter plays with mate threats. At the end, it was ... [all]
[07.12.2013] - Oldhands, who played white, should have been in charges of the yesterdays round, which took place after the day off. It was high time to erase the four points lead of Snowdrops. Sadly, GM Uhlmann is not in his best condition. He had a really good position in the game with Alina Kashlinskaya. Apparently he has surprised her with his choice of opening. Just after 10…cxd5 it could be enough to play 11.Ncb5 with an advantage. After that it would be simple 13.Rc1, which would give a really good place for the white, but instead of that, German GM played suicidal 13.d4 after which the position of th... [all]
[07.12.2013] - The full conference hall of the Zamecek (= „small chateau“) Hotel in Podebrady has experienced an amusing lecture of GM Pal Benko on the topic „My encounters with Bobby Fischer.“ Eighty five years old Benko was continuously speaking about his career and Fischer for almost for two hours. He showed four games which he played against the famous Bobby. Pavel Votruba and David Navara successfully performed the complicated task of translating into Czech.
Pal Benko first met Fischer at the Interzonal tournament in Portoroz in 1958. Fischer came there as a fifteen-year-old youngster and al... [all]
[04.12.2013] - The Snowdrops' team was leading over the Oldhands by three points, but on Tuesday the legends played with White pieces and they were expected to try and change the adverse course of the match. The fourth round has therefore also provided interesting encounters.
The game Dorfman – Kashlinskaya followed a hot theoretical dispute. Czech grandmaster Smejkal revealed that the French GM had been preparing mostly for the King's Indian Defence. Alina Kashlinskaya instead opted for 1...d5 and there appeared a razor sharp line of Slav gambit, where the theory has been developing dramatically. B... [all]
