Chess Train 2013

Train chess in the chess train

Train chess in the chess train

[10.10.2013] - We are leaving tomorrow. What seemed to be just science-fiction five years ago is reality now. The third year in the row the Chess Train will go throw central Europe.

The nice pun in the title I used is from David Navarra, the best Czech chess player. In the Chess Train not just players in tournament, who can hope for playing with such as legendary grandmasters as Vlastimil Hort and Ján Plachetka, will train chess, but also their non-playing companions can. For them there will be a crash course in chess basics for quickly understanding beginners.

Let´s return to grandmaster... [all]

Quiz

The longest tournament ever

The longest tournament ever

[10.10.2013] - We all know that David Navara has awesome ideas not just behind a chessboard. Yesterday, he inspired me for a quiz question which I can´t keep for myself or just for club companions. Here it is:
Which are or were the three longest international tournaments ever? Think quick, the answer will be published soon :-) ... [all]

The legend about beer

The legend about beer

[06.10.2013] - Merlin is known as legendary character from English mythology. In legends such as the one about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the sword Excalibur is Merlin described as powerful magician and sorcerer.

But Merlin is also an exceptional dark lager beer, which thanks to his dark color can be described as true dark beer. It´s brewed out of three different malts, crystal clear water from deep lake, a high quality hops and roasted barley.

Degustation of beers will be a part of festive party the ni... [all]

Postmark of the Chess Olympiad Prague 1931

Extraordinary opportunity for philatelists

Extraordinary opportunity for philatelists

[29.09.2013] - If it was or wasn´t commemorative postmark of chess Olympiad Prague 1931 is not certain, but since the fifties it surely exists! There are no more than a few pieces, maximally a several dozens, of envelopes with this postmark. This philatelistic rarity is even missing in the collection of Anatoly Karpov, who is known as owner of the biggest and the most complete collection of chess philately.

Břetislav Modr, collector of chess post-stamps and postmarks and one of the greatest experts in this field, has shared this information in his article in IN magazine (39 / 2013), which was publ... [all]

Topalov is coming to the Czech Republic

Topalov is coming to the Czech Republic

[16.09.2013] - Holiday adventures are over, kids have to go back to school and chess clubs are coming back to life again. For example here in PORG Chess Club - during the summer we meet each other on gardens where cool beer is being served and where is pleasant shade under the old chestnut trees, but with September starts regular jourfixs and training sessions in classroom of natural sciences. Even this web is coming back to ordinary routine.
If you didn´t find your feet in what´s going on in world of chess or what interesting is going on in September and October, we have two tips for you.

Gourmands in Salzburg monasteries

Gourmands in Salzburg monasteries

[14.08.2013] - Mozart's town lives by music, but man can not live by music alone. Sometimes it is necessary to have a drink and eat something. We went to Salzburg, which will be the third phase city of this year's Chess train, for an inspection trip of monastic restaurants. And you shall not pass off the two of them, which are worthy of sin:-).

The first one is situated in the centre of the old town, right under the castle, in St. Peter's Benedictine monastery. St. Peter Stiftskeller restaurant was m... [all]

MARIO MATOUŠ DIED

[15.07.2013] - The best Czech chess composer Mario Matouš died on Thursday 4th of July reaching the age of 66 years. Hard life, since early childhood, when communist judiciary put in jail his mother in the political process, and, as 3-years old, he wandered into children´s home for re-education, up to the old age, when he was fighting with depressions and loneliness, fulfilled with a long line of beautiful chess studies.
