SNOWDROPS AND OLDHANDS

Round 6 - About the destiny of the match is almost decided

Round 6 - About the destiny of the match is almost decided

[10.12.2011] - After Thursday´s fifth round the situation was already very serious for Snowdrops. Therefore, three rounds before the end they were forced by a four point deficit to play a gamble. Of course, the Oldhands also calculated and thus in the sixth round chose with white stones reliable and solid openings. When the battle between Snowdrops and Oldhands started, in the commentary room Czech legend Jan Smejkal analysed his game against grandmaster Gulko, where Smejkal´s avalanche of pawns swept away everything in the way.

After two hours of playing, the audience heard an evaluation of the a... [all]

Round 5 - Oldhands on the winning wave

Round 5 - Oldhands on the winning wave

[09.12.2011] - After one free day Snowdrops started with white stones, but even though they had some hopeful positions, they did not manage to gain more than three draws, when the pressure of experienced Oldhands did not keep Czech representative Eva Kulovana again.

Boris Gulko played against Tania Sadchev extremely actively and tried to get an advantage with black pieces. However, Sachdev found the right plan connected with an attack on the kingside. Because of lack of time before the time control she agreed with a draw in a better but very difficult position.

Also Rafael Vaganian played ... [all]

Round 4: Hübner and Muzychuk won again

Round 4: Hübner and Muzychuk won again

[07.12.2011] - Snowdrop´s captain Michal Konopka was dissapointed after the openings: „Snowdrops are out of their preparation again. Tania Sachdev expected Queen Gambit (Stonewall was played instead), Eva Kulovaná Sicilian game (Pirc defense was played).“

Sachdev managed to play the opening well, offered draw in the move 21 and Vaganian agreed. Boris Gulko and Maria Muzychuk played Sicilian very quickly. GM Gulko misplayed a quiet rare variation, he came under pressure, lost a pawn and then the game also. The game between Vlastimil Hort and Natalia Pogonina looked quite one-sided. It seemed that P... [all]

Third round – a fast win for Vaganian

Third round – a fast win for Vaganian

[06.12.2011] - Initiative words of IM Michal Konopka, the captain of Snowdrops, who came back as a commentator after one day, were not so encouraging for Snowdrops. “The positions after openings are not so good for Snowdrops,” said Michal Konopka and also specified an unsatisfied task. “I agreeded with Tania Sadchev on that she will play fast in game with Vlastimil Hort to get him under the time pressure. As we see, unfortunately she did not manage it.”

An unexpectedly fast stroke came from Rafael Vaganian. His really fast and effective attack on the kingside celebrated a success. “It would be again... [all]

SNOWDROPS AND OLDHANDS

Second round – Oldhands a step forward

Second round – Oldhands a step forward

[05.12.2011] - Snowdrops who played very well yesterday, sat down to the second round with white stones. At the beginning there were relatively balanced positions, but the games hid many active options. On Sunday, the audience could have seen the best Czech chess player, grandmaster David Navara as a commentator, who firstly shared his impressions from his Saturday’s league game and then started to analyze each game of the match.

“I have fulfilled the task from my captain“, Eva Kulovana, who after 17 moves offered a draw to Rafael Vaganian. The Armenian grandmaster had nothing against.

SNOWDROPS AND OLDHANDS

It´s raining, raining, just raining

It´s raining, raining, just raining

[04.12.2011] - Pavel Englicky introduced Raindropchess with a style on this rainy day in Marienbad. He played a simul against seven opponents for two hours. Mr. Rainman won almost all games, but still he lost more than it is usual in the classical chess simul. Percentage of chance, which depends on how the pack of cards is shuffled, is in raindropchess very high.

Spacek´s family reached great success in this simul, when firstly won 5-year-old Hynek, then 7-year-old Ivan and finally also their daddy Michal – probably all of them train in a good ches... [all]
