Chess Festival 2019

The Grandmasters with Asian names leading

[19.06.2019 00:00:00] - Sunday's simultaneous game in the fantastic premises of the Municipal House opened the festival with a nice athmosphere. Art Nouveau splendor is breathtaking not only in the Mayor's Hall, which is the work of Alfons Mucha and the gateway to this year's top event of the Prague Chess Society. On Monday, the first games of grandmaster duels began.
The best Czech chess player David Navara loses 2: 1 in the match with the world's third best player Ding Liren after the first day. The best Czech junior chess player Thai Dai Van Nguyen leads over the world chess legend Jan Timman with the same score. The first games ended with a draw after the big fight on both chessboards, Ding Liren and Thai Dai Van Nguyen won the second game and the third one were draws again. Both matches are played for 10 games in rapid chess and will continue today and tomorrow afternoon at the Municipal House in Prague.

Among the guests of the festival, you can also meet the legends of Czech chess Vlastimil Hort, Jan Smejkal and Vlastimil Jansa. Grandmaster Robert Cvek comments the games for the audience in the Municipal House. The accompanying program of the festival were the aforementioned simultaneous games of Grandmasters Ding Liren and David Navara (the Chinese representative won 12: 0 and the Czech 23.5: 0.5), then a chess lectures by Grandmaster Robert Cvek and an exhibition of chess photographs by Vladimír Brádler.

Detailed program of the festival is here or on the Facebook profile of Chess Festival.
